Professor Lucas Lepri shows how to escape from the spider guard and get to the side control. The opponent has the spider guard and Lucas starts to escape by stepping back and circling his arms in to remove the opponents feet from the arms. Lucas now pushes one leg under the other and starts to move to the side. As he moves to the side, he applies his shoulder pressure onto the opponent. The opponent reacts by framing and shrimping out. Lucas follows him and then steps over the opponent's leg so he can start moving to the other side. He reaches for the opponents back, and then back steps. He then controls the opponent's far side arm and transitions to the side control position.
