Professor Lucas Lepri shows how to escape the half guard and get to the mount or closed guard. Lucas starts with the opponent in his half guard. The opponent is maintaining top pressure isolating one of Lucas‘s arms. Lucas starts to escape by using his freehand to push on the opponent's hip. He then locks his feet together and shifts his legs away, making the opponent shift their weight. This allows him to create just enough space so he can slide his arm in and under hook the opponent's arm, gripping as high as he can go. Lucas now uses the under hook to push the opponent away. If the opponent maintains pressure, then Lucas uses his outside foot to hook at the inside of the opponent's leg. The leg that was initially used to push on the hip at the beginning, is now moved to trap the opponent's arm near the head as Lucas extends his leg to sweep the opponent over to the mount.
