Guard Retention by Being Side Ways (Intermediate)

October 23, 2025 on 00:37 2 0

Description

Professor Lucas Lepri demonstrates a follow up to a guard retention drill, focusing on creating an immediate counter attack when the opponent commits to a pass. Lucas maintains a sideways posture and keeps his legs active to prevent the opponent from dropping their weight. When the opponent commits to a pass, Lucas picks a side and uses a grip on the opponent's triceps to push them diagonally. This rotational push forces the opponent out of position, allowing Lucas to either cross his legs to regain a tight guard or spin underneath the opponent for a powerful sweep or reversal. The key is to use the opponent's momentum against them rather than fighting head on.
