Professor Lucas Lepri demonstrates how to maintain control in Single Leg X-guard even after an opponent breaks your primary collar grip. He stresses that the "strength" of the position comes from constant leg tension you must use your knees to continually "bump" and stretch the opponent so they cannot settle their weight or establish a base. If the collar grip is lost, immediately switch to a sleeve or belt grip with your free hand while ensuring your underhooking arm stays deep behind their knee to prevent them from pinning your hips. Lucas then uses the a technical stand-up, bumping the opponent forward to force their hands to the mat. This allows him to rise and transition directly into a high pressure knee cut pass or mount.
