Professor Frederico Silva teaches a variation of the butterfly guard sweep, by controlling both arms after the opponent tries to defend. Frederico is playing the open guard and the opponent grips his collar. Frederico uses both his hands to break the grip on the collar. He maintains the grip with his opposite side hand and uses his other hand to grip the bicep. The arm is then pulled across and Frederico moves in and places his butterfly hooks in. The grip from the bicep is then moved to the back. In this scenario, the opponent tries to defend the sweep by blocking Frederico by placing his arm over the neck. Frederico immediately controls that arm and sweeps in the opposite direction of the initial sweep. After the sweep, Frederico jumps over the opponent to the side control position.
