Professor Lucas Lepri teaches a variation on how to defend when the opponent has the lapel control. The opponent jumps guard and under hooks Lucas’s leg. He immediately feeds Lucas’ lapel to the under hooked hand. Lucas starts to defend by gripping the opponent’s collar and pants and then applies pressure. In this scenario, the opponent swings his leg out. Lucas switches the grip on the leg and also grips the other leg. He now steps back and pushes down on both legs. He places his head near the opponent’s hips so the opponent won’t try to recompose. From here, he works on passing.
