Special guest Alec Baulding teaches a technique for the fundamentals class. Alec teaches a variation to defend and escape from the back take when the opponent rolls to the side. The opponent has the back take and the first thing Alec does is defend his neck by controlling the opponent’s arm. He grips the arm and pulls it down as he slides his head down and towards the elbow. Alec then pushes the opponent onto his back and turns away in the opposite direction of the choking arm. In this scenario, the opponent pulls Alec to the other side to try and finish the choke. Alec uses that momentum to post his leg on the mat. The hand that was gripping the wrist is now used to grip the back of the collar. Alec now just pushes away to escape and transitions to the half guard.
