Description

Professor Frederico Silva shows how to get to the side control using a half guard sweep variation. Frederico starts with the arm and collar control. He takes a step forward and switches his collar grip to the back of the opponent’s belt. The opponent defends by stepping back and Frederico once again takes a step forward and uses his leg to hook the opponent’s leg as he falls to the mat pulling the opponent down. He is now in the half guard position. In this scenario, the opponent posts his knee on the mat. Frederico reaches over the opponent to grip the back of the pants. He then reaches for the foot with the other hand to prevent the opponent from posting out. Frederico now switches his grips and under hooks the knee so he can bump the opponent over to sweep. He then transitions to the side control.
