Half Guard to Guard Recomposition Using a Butterfly Hook (Intermediate)

Professor Frederico Silva teaches a variation on how to transition from the half guard to the closed guard when the opponent controls the head. Frederico has the opponent in the half guard and the opponent reaches over to control Frederico’s head. In this scenario, Frederico reaches over the opponent and controls the belt. He uses his other elbow to push the opponent’s leg down as he turns to the side. Frederico now slides in a butterfly hook so he can lift the opponent up. Once he lifts the opponent up, Frederico can escape his bottom leg and then closes the guard.
