Professor Lucas Lepri demonstrates a continuation of the guard retention drill that turns into a submission from a leg entanglement. When Lucas is on his side, and the opponent tries to push his leg down to pass, Lucas counters by opening his knee and grabbing the opponent's ankle to stop their forward momentum. He then scoops underneath the opponent to establish a leg entanglement, either the one legged X guard or X guard. From this strong attacking position, Lucas sweeps the opponent forward, maintains control of the ankle, and transitions to finish a straight ankle lock by passing his other leg over and securing the submission.
