Professor Lucas Lepri teaches how to get an armbar submission after attempting to sweep the opponent starting with the knee shield. Lucas starts with the half guard and knee shield controlling the collar and sleeve. He releases the collar grip and under hooks the opponent’s arm so he can reach behind the back to control the pants. Lucas now switches the hooks on the opponent’s leg and traps it. He pushes forward and comes up. In this scenario, Lucas is not able to isolate the leg in an attempt to sweep. Lucas instead posts on the mat with his bottom hand and releases the grip on the pants to use that hand to control the opponent’s wrist. He now brings his top leg over the opponent and turns the opponent over trapping the arm for the armbar.
