Professor Lucas Lepri teaches how to sweep the opponent using a modified de la riva. Lucas starts with the de la riva controlling the collar and pants. The opponent pushes Lucas’ de la riva legs down in an attempt to start passing. Lucas maintains his grips and immediately crosses his legs together behind the de la riva side leg. The grip on the collar is now moved to the same side sleeve. Lucas bumps the opponent forward to make them step in. As soon as the opponent steps in, Lucas releases the grip on the sleeve and under hooks the leg. He uncrosses his legs and raises his hips to where he is able to place his leg over the opponent’s knee. This allows Lucas to use that leg to bump the opponent back to sweep. As the opponent falls, Lucas immediately circles his leg behind the opponent’s and moves in to keep the pressure. From here, Lucas is able to then pass to the side control position.
