Professor Lucas Lepri teaches how to use a modified de la riva to transition to various sweeps. Lucas starts with the de la riva controlling the collar and pants. The opponent pushes Lucas’ de la riva legs down in an attempt to start passing. Lucas maintains his grips and immediately crosses his legs together behind the de la riva side leg. The grip on the collar is now moved to the same side sleeve. Lucas bumps the opponent forward to make them step in but in this scenario, the opponent keeps their base. Lucas again switches the grip from the sleeve to the same side pants. From this position, there are a couple of scenarios that can occur depending on the opponent’s reaction. Lucas bumps the opponent back and is able to sweep them back. If the opponent is not swept, then Lucas creates enough space to where he can go for a one leg x sweep, x guard sweep or overhead sweep.
