Description

Professor Lucas Lepri demonstrates how to pass De La Riva guard and establish side control. The situation begins with the opponent in De La Riva guard holding the ankle. Lucas grips both pant legs with his fingers pointing toward the outside of the legs. He first pushes down and then forward to disengage the opponent's hook. Lucas applies pressure using his lead leg, and then he releases the pressure by shifting his hips back and immediately dragging the opponent's legs to the side. Lucas passing to the same side as the opponent’s original De La Riva hook, dropping his shoulder toward his opponent and releasing the leg at the last moment in order to control the around the head and apply pressure with his shoulder. Note that Lucas maintains his grip on the far leg throughout the technique, using it to push the opponent’s legs away as he drops his shoulder and completes the pass to side control.
