Description

Professor André Gois teaches how to sweep using the X guard, after attempting to sweep with a butterfly guard. The opponent starts with both knees on the mat and with his torso extended. André is sitting on the mat with one knee bent up, and the other knee is flat on the mat. He moves in and places both feet in between the opponents knees as he under hooks with the side that the knee is up. He then grips the sleeve of the other arm. He starts to sweep by pushing up with his leg as he starts to lean to the side. When André’s head touches the mat, he kicks the opponent’s leg but in this scenario, the opponent defends by posting up with his leg. André now under hooks that leg and shifts his hips to the other side. As he does this, he hooks the inside of the opponent’s legs with his own to get into the X guard. From here, André pushes the opponent away and does a technical stand up. This sweeps the opponent over and he is now able to start passing the guard.
