Professor Frederico Silva teaches how to get the inverted armbar after attempting to sweep the opponent with the butterfly guard sweep. Frederico moves in with one knee flat on the mat and the other bent up. He reaches behind the opponent and grips the back of the same side his knee is up. The other hand is used to grip the arm, to prevent the opponent from posting it on the mat. Frederico starts to go for the sweep, but the opponent defends by pulling his arm out. Frederico immediately places his foot on the hip and the other foot is brought out over the shoulder. He uses his arm to trap the opponent’s arm against his head. From here, Frederico now squeezes his legs together and goes for the inverted armbar submission.
