Professor Lucas Lepri teaches how to use a De La Riva sweep to get to the side control or take the back. Lucas starts with the opponent in his closed guard. As soon as the opponent starts to open the guard, Lucas goes for the De La Riva. The foot opposite to the De La Riva hook is kept on the same side hip. Lucas raises his hips and slides his De La Riva hook all the way through to the other leg. He turns to make the opponent step back. Lucas now grips the opponent’s leg and the back of the pants. The knee is placed behind the opponent’s near side leg. Lucas pulls the opponent to the side and switches his hooks. He then leg drags and comes up. From here, Lucas can go to the side control or to the back depending on the opponent’s reaction.
