Professor Lucas Lepri teaches how to sweep the opponent from the closed guard. As soon as the opponent starts to open the guard, Lucas goes for the De La Riva. The foot opposite to the De La Riva hook is kept on the same side hip. Lucas raises his hips and slides his De La Riva hook all the way through to the other leg. He turns to make the opponent step back. In this scenario, the opponent’s foot is too far back for Lucas to grip. Lucas immediately goes for the X guard instead. He sits up and when the opponent reacts, Lucas sweeps the opponent over his own head. As soon as he sweeps, Lucas knee cuts and passes to the side control.
