Professor Lucas Lepri demonstrates how to escape a headlock on the ground and transition to an armbar submission. The situation begins with the opponent applying a headlock and taking Lucas to the ground. In this scenario, the opponent maintains the headlock with both hands. Applying an underhook with his bottom arm opposite the headlock, Lucas clasps his hands and hugs the opponent tightly to his chest. Lucas then bridges over his bottom shoulder, attempting to make the opponent base his hand or at least push back against him to attempt to reestablish control of the hips. When Lucas feels the opponent resisting the bridge, he bridges in the other direction, taking advantage of his opponent’s momentum. As usual, Lucas emphasizes the importance of timing in this technique in order to use the opponent’s movement against him. Now Lucas escapes his head from the headlock by passing one leg over his opponent’s hips and using a frame to apply neck pressure. When the grip breaks, Lucas maintains a grip on the opponent’s top arm, passing his other leg over the opponent’s head to finish the armbar.
