Professor Lucas Lepri shows a variation on escaping from the mount and taking the opponent’s back. Lucas uses his elbows to move up under the mount. He then grips the lower part of the pants so he can slide the opponent’s leg over his own. He then uses his other leg to hook the foot so he can transition to the deep half guard. In this scenario, Lucas uses his hooks on the opponent’s leg to lift and push the opponent up. This lets Lucas align his body in a way that he can now reach for the opponent’s back. Lucas pushes his hooks away and pulls on the opponent to take the back. If the opponent tries to escape, then Lucas takes one hook out and brings his knee up so he can then turn the opponent in the opposite direction to take the back.
