Professor Lucas Lepri shows how to get to the side control or take the back by pinning the opponent's leg to the mat. The opponent is using the open guard and Lucas is standing. Lucas pins the opponent’s bottom leg to the mat with the same side hand. He moves in and then switches the grip on the leg. Lucas now tries to grip the opponent’s other leg, but the opponent circles the leg to prevent it. When the timing is right, Lucas ducks under the leg and comes out to the side making sure he cups the back of the opponent’s neck. From here, Lucas can go to the side control position. If the opponent attempts to turn in, then Lucas can jump to the other side and take the back.
