Professor Lucas Lepri shows how to sweep an opponent as they are trying to pass the guard. Lucas is playing guard and reaches for the opponent’s near side ankle. The same side foot is placed on the opponent’s hips and the other foot on the opposite side bicep while gripping the sleeve. The opponent is able to push Lucas’ leg down and starts stepping to the side so he can pass the guard. As soon as the opponent pushes the leg down and steps, Lucas switches the grip from the ankle to the pants. He uses the same side foot to post on the mat as he turns his hips, lifts the leg and pulls on the sleeve sweeping the opponent to the other side. Lucas comes up and establishes the side control position.
