Professor Donovan Espinosa teaches an escape from side control. Donovan is on the mat and the opponent is controlling him with the side control. Donovan places one hand on the shoulder and cups it with his hand. He places the other hand on the other side of the arm, near the armpit. He uses his hands to push the opponent up as he bridges with his body. This makes the opponent post out with his hand creating space. Donovan takes advantage of this and shrimps out. This allows him to now slide one knee in, followed by the other knee to get the closed guard.
