Description

Professor André Gois shows how to get an americana or spinning armbar from the side control. André starts by controlling the opponent in the side control position. He uses his shoulder pressure on the neck to prevent the opponent from turning in. He now needs to isolate the opponent’s outside arm. He uses his torso to start pushing the arm down. This allows him to slide his outside arm in and controls the wrist. While controlling the wrist, André now slides his other hand under the elbow and connects his hands together. In one motion, he slides the arm down to finish the americana submission. In a scenario where the opponent defends by extending their arm, André can go for an armbar. As the opponent extends the arm, André pulls the arm in and raises the opponent up. As soon as the back of the opponent is completely exposed, André steps over with his outside leg and sits to immediately lock in the spinning armbar submission.
