Professor Lucas Lepri teaches how to counter a single leg and then escape from a deep half guard. The opponent goes for the single leg with the collar grip. Once the opponent goes for the collar grip, Lucas immediately grips the bottom sleeve and reaches over the back to grip the Gi. He steps to the side and drops to the mat, pulling the opponent to the side using his leg to flip him over. In this variation, Lucas goes for the knee on belly, but the opponent bridges and pushes Lucas’ leg down to go for the deep half guard. Lucas immediately defends by changing his base and drops his leg to the mat. This prevents the opponent from transitioning. Lucas now moves his hips out so he can turn and point his knee to the mat. From here, Lucas goes for the cross face and passes to the side control.
