Professor Lucas Lepri shows a variation on how to prevent the opponent from passing his De La Riva guard. Lucas starts with the spider guard and then transitions to the De La Riva. As soon as Lucas places the foot on the hip, the opponent pushes it down and steps over in an attempt to start passing. Lucas bumps the opponent to make his step forward so he can under hook the leg. The inside leg is used to push the inside of the opponent’s leg. In this scenario, the opponent keeps his weight away from Lucas. Lucas maintains the grip on both pants and reacts by bringing his legs back so he can move under the opponent. He then stands up pulling both of the opponent’s legs off the mat. He now walks backwards to put the opponent down.
