Professor Lucas Lepri shows how to get to the opponent’s side control after attempting a single leg takedown from the reverse de la riva. Lucas starts standing up, controlling both of the opponent's wrists. He then moves into the reverse de la riva. The opponent moves in and applies pressure in an attempt to defend. Lucas uses his outside foot to push the opponent on the hip while still maintaining his reverse de la riva hook. As he pushes, this creates space and pushes the opponent away. Lucas sits up in an attempt to go for the single leg, but the opponent pushes back with their knee. Lucas allows the opponent to push back so he can underhook the far side leg with his hand and uses the momentum to push the opponent away. He does a technical stand up while still controlling the leg and then moves in to clinch the back. The opponent attempts to recompose the guard by spinning back and Lucas just follows and gets the side control.
