Professor Lucas Lepri teaches how to escape from the worm guard when the opponent feeds the lapel behind his leg. The situation begins with the opponent in De La Riva guard gripping Lucas' ankle and lapel. In this sequence, the opponent is able to sit up, feed the lapel behind Lucas' leg, and grip with the other hand on the same lapel. Lucas first controls the opponent's lapel and, if necessary, he clears the opponent's foot from his hip. He then switches his grips, controlling the lapel with one hand and driving the opponent's leg down to the mat with the other. From here Lucas grabs the tail end of the lapel to break the opponent's grip, escaping from the worm guard and putting himself in position to apply the knee cut or toreada pass.
