Professor Lucas Lepri teaches how to sweep the opponent and take the back from the closed guard when they stand up. Lucas has a closed guard and is controlling both sleeves. The opponent stands up in an attempt to open the guard. Lucas releases a grip on the sleeve and under hooks the same side leg near the ankle. Lucas pulls on the leg and uses his hips to push the opponent back. As the opponent falls to the mat, Lucas maintains his closed guard. In this variation, the opponent attempts to turn away and get Lucas in the half guard. As soon as the opponent starts to turn, Lucas falls back to the mat and pulls the opponent’s arm across. This puts Lucas in the perfect position to take the back control.
