Professor Lucas Lepri teaches how to pass by stepping over an opponent's butterfly hook when he defends against an initial folding pass attempt. The sequence begins with Lucas choosing a side and forcing his opponent to play De La Riva guard. Lucas then pushes the De La Riva hook down, traps the opponent's other leg, and holds his neck with a collar tie grip. Lucas is able to trap the opponent's knee under his armpit and lock his hands for the folding pass, but the opponent is then able to free his knee and establish a butterfly hook. Keeping his toes on the mat behind the knee of the opponent's trapped leg, Lucas waits for the opponent to lift with the butterfly hook, makes his leg very light, and steps over top of the hook. If possible, Lucas immediately circles his other foot to the outside and establishes mount. If the opponent traps his foot in half guard, then Lucas drives his knee downward in front of the opponent's hips and knee cuts into side control.
