De La Riva Guard Sweep and Sit Up Guard Defense to Side Control (Intermediate)

Professor Lucas Lepri shows how to combat the opponent’s sit up guard after the sweep shown in the previous technique. After sweeping the opponent, Lucas does a technical stand-up, keeping his grips on the collar and pants. When the opponent sits up and hugs Lucas’ leg, Lucas pulls the opponent’s leg over his knee and steps in close to the opponent. He then underhooks the opponent’s arm on the side with the leg on his knee and applies the crossface with the other arm. He puts his opponent’s back on the floor and passes his knees to the same side to pass to side control.
