Description

Professor Lucas Lepri explains how to sweep an opponent from De La Riva guard and take the back. Lucas begins in the De La Riva guard holding the opponent’s ankle. In this situation the opponent pushes his legs down and begins to put his front knee forward as if to attempt a far-side knee cut pass. Lucas blocks the attempt and releases the ankle to scoop the knee. Lucas bumps the opponent over his head, causing the opponent to base with both hands. Lucas then circles the leg that had been trapping the opponent’s ankle around, shifts his hips, and applies the x-guard. From here he completes the sweep, maintaining his grip on the leg. He releases the leg and immediately wraps his arms around the opponents hips as though he has applied a double leg takedown. Then Lucas moves to a seatbelt grip and circles around to the opponent’s back before inserting one leg hook, then turning to insert the other leg hook. If the opponent attempts to establish a guard after the wrapping both arms around the opponents hips, Lucas transitions to the other side to establish side control.
