Professor Lucas Lepri teaches how to take the back starting with the De La Riva and then uses the berimbolo. Lucas starts with the De La Riva and uses it to push the opponent away to unbalance him. He sits up and reaches for the opponent’s pants around the waist. As he pulls the opponent back, he under hooks the near side leg and goes to the berimbolo. The shin is now placed behind the opponent’s leg so it can be used to push the opponent away. In this scenario, the opponent posts his hand on the mat to defend. Lucas maintains the position and switches the grips on the legs so he can then push the opponent forward and takes the back.
