Professor Lucas Lepri shows how to stop an opponent who is trying to do the knee cut pass on him, by going to the deep half guard and getting the back or side control. Lucas starts in the De La Riva position and pushes on the opponent’s far side leg as he comes up and grips his near side leg. From here the opponent tries to go for the knee cut pass. Lucas immediately bumps the opponent and goes to the deep half guard. The opponent tries to go for Lucas’ arm and Lucas takes advantage of this by bumping him with his shoulder so he can slide his other arm under the leg. He now uses both of his hands to feed the lapel to his far side hand and grips the pants or belt with his other hand. Lucas then releases his legs and bumps as he turns the opponent back. Lucas now has both of his hands gripping the lapel on both sides under the opponent’s legs. He places one elbow on the mat and steps with his opposite leg out. He slides his other leg along the opponent’s body and pulls on him to get him to turn. As the opponent is turned, Lucas can now go to the side control position, or if the opponent keeps rolling he can take the opponent’s back.
