De la Riva to Sit Up Guard to Sweep with Knee Cut Pass Defense to Back Take or Takedown Professor Lucas Lepri teaches how to sweep the opponent using the de la riva with lapel control. Lucas starts in the open guard and goes for the de la riva. Lucas uses the foot on the hip to push the opponent away and slides his other leg down to trap the ankle. Lucas now sits up and reaches for the lapel control. In this scenario, the opponent starts to defend by pushing Lucas back and goes for the knee cut. Lucas keeps the lapel and sleeve control. He turns in the direction of the knee cut and when the opponent reacts, he squares up with his knees bent. Lucas now uses one of the hooks to push the opponent to unbalance. The other leg is now used to rock forward so he can come up while pulling the arm with the sleeve. If the opponent stays in that position, then Lucas takes the back. If the opponent stands up, then Lucas takes him down and passes.
