Description

Professor Lucas Lepri demonstrates a back roll sweep from the De La Riva guard with a lapel grip. From open guard, Lucas applies a De La Riva hook and applies a same-side sleeve grip on the arm on the same side as the hook. With his other hand, he grips the opponent’s far-side lapel near the end. Lucas releases the sleeve grip and underhooks the opponent’s leg, then feeds the lapel to that hand trapping his own leg as he does so. He uses his free hand to grip the opponent’s collar to prevent him from breaking the lapel grip. Lucas begins to adjust the lapel grip deeper and deeper, forcing the opponent to stay close to his body instead of posturing up. Lucas uses his legs and grips to force the opponent to fall backward, where the opponent posts his arm on the mat to stay upright. Lucas inverts in what looks like a Berimbolo. He releases the lapel grip and reaches to grip the back of the opponent’s pants. Now Lucas releases the collar grip and back rolls over the opponent, where he can back step to complete the transition to side control.
