Description

Professor Lucas Lepri demonstrates a De La Riva sweep with a lapel grip. The situation begins with Lucas playing open guard and keeping his opponent moving until one of the opponent’s lapel’s comes out of the belt. Pulling the lapel out with his same-side hand, Lucas rocks his hips as though he is going to insert the De La Riva hook on the other side. He feeds the lapel through the opponent’s legs and under his own leg, passing it to his other hand. Lucas now reaches across his body with the same-side hand and re-grips the lapel without trapping his own leg. Lucas now establishes the De La Riva guard, inserting his hook and holding the ankle. Lucas now pushes the opponent’s hips away, forcing the opponent to step back. Lucas now sits up, releasing the opponent’s ankle to post his hand on the mat behind him. Maintaining the De La Riva hook, Lucas drops his other foot on the mat, finally removing the hook and using that leg to kick the opponent’s ankle out as he comes up to complete the sweep.
