Professor Lucas Lepri demonstrates a guillotine defense from standing. The situation begins with Lucas attempting a double leg or clinch. The opponent defends by placing both hands on Lucas’ shoulders and pushing him down to prevent the Lucas from establishing his grips. The opponent then establishes the guillotine grip. Lucas first uses the arm on the side that his head is trapped to push against the opponent’s hips, preventing the opponent from pulling guard and completing the choke. Lucas’ other arm goes over the opponent’s shoulder and reaches down to touch the center of the opponent’s back. Lucas then shuffles to the opposite side of his head and uses his knee to bump the back of his opponent’s knee. As soon as the opponent starts to fall, Lucas steps his leg back and follows the opponent to the ground with his hands maintaining the same positions. From there, Lucas reaches his arm further down the opponent’s back and uses his shoulder to create pressure on the opponent’s neck. He removes his hand from the opponent’s hip and grips the wrist of the arm that is trapping him in the guillotine. As soon as the opponent releases his grip, Lucas pulls the arm up and escapes his head to complete the transition to side control.
