Professor Lucas Lepri teaches how to escape from when the opponent is in his half guard and is gripping the upper body. Lucas is on the mat and has the opponent in his half guard. The opponent is defending by gripping Lucas’ upper body, gripping his hands together. Lucas uses the arm that is near the opponent’s face to frame against the neck. The other hand is used to push on the hips. When he creates enough space, Lucas moves his top leg into a knee shield position. He now connects his hands together so he can push the opponent away to break the grip. Lucas now goes for the under hook, kicks his knee out and grips his hands together. He makes sure he keeps pulling the opponent in and then switches the hooks on the legs. Lucas now bridges and uses the hook on the leg to turn the opponent over. From here, he secures the side control position.
