Professor Lucas Lepri teaches how to take the back, after passing the opponent’s half guard. While in the half guard, Lucas makes sure to keep the opponent’s back on the mat to prevent him from transitioning. He also keeps his knees tight on the opponents legs. Lucas now changes his base to where he has both of his arms on the opponent’s other side. He now turns his hips and looks away from the opponent. Lucas now uses his top leg to push the opponents leg down so he can slide his leg out. He shrimps back and then back steps with his top leg. The bottom leg is now used to hook the opponent’s leg. In this variation, the opponent defends when Lucas attempts to pull the opponent. Lucas instead jumps over the opponent and dives to the other side. From here, Lucas can now work on taking the back control.
