Professor Lucas Lepri shows how to escape from an opponent’s half guard and pass to side control. Lucas starts in the half guard position with one arm underneath the opponent’s head and the other under the arm grasping both of his hands together. From this position, Lucas starts to work the half guard escape by first lifting his hips in the air and either uses his foot to hook it on the opponent’s leg to open the half guard or he shakes his legs and hips to create enough space to slide his knee through. Once he is able to open the half guard, he uses his leg to push the opponent’s leg away. Lucas holds this position until the opponent stops trying to escape. Once the opponent stops trying to escape, Lucas then moves his head to the other side and establishes the side control.
