Professor Lucas Lepri explains how to escape from north south position and recompose the closed guard. The opponent begins in side control and transitions to the north south position. In this situation, Lucas is not able to establish a frame underneath the opponent’s arms. Once the opponent is in north south, Lucas grips the belt or the pants on the front of the body with both hands. He begins to pendulum his legs back and forth, extending his arms slowly to create space. Once his arms are fully extended, he pendulums one final time and scissors his legs to come up to his knees and shoulder, continuing to hold the opponent’s hips away with one extended arm. He then comes up to his elbow and places one foot on the ground to pass his other knee through and place the foot on the opponent’s hip before recomposing the closed guard.
