Professor Lucas Lepri teaches how to sweep the opponent using the sit up guard and explains some sit up guard concepts. Lucas starts with the open guard controlling both of the opponent’s sleeves. He transitions to the de la riva and uses the foot on the hip to push the opponent away. This allows Lucas to come up to the sit up guard position. He now reaches under the opponent’s near side leg and grips the lapel. The opponent reacts by attempting to pass using the knee cut. Lucas keeps everything tight to prevent the opponent from passing. He releases the initial grip on the sleeve and reaches for the far side leg, with his palm facing down. Lucas now bumps the opponent over and pulls on the leg to sweep. From here, Lucas immediately passes to the side control. If the opponent tries to roll away, then he takes the back control instead.
