Professor Lucas Lepri teaches how to get an armbar or triangle from a half lasso position. Lucas starts with the open guard and reaches for both of the opponent’s sleeves. He pulls guard and goes for the half lasso on one side and the spider on the other side. The opponent tries to defend by placing the knee on the back of Lucas’ leg. Lucas removes the opponent's knee by releasing the half lasso and uses that leg to push the knee off as he pulls the same side sleeve in. Lucas now immediately raises his hips and locks his legs over the opponent’s shoulder. In this variation, the opponent slides his elbow and shoulder out so he can sit back and place his knee in between Lucas’ legs to escape. Lucas unlocks his legs and places one foot back on the biceps and uses his other leg to hook the same side ankle after he hip escapes to create space. He now pushes the opponent to the side and raises the leg to shift the opponent’s weight to the side. Lucas pulls the arm in and immediately locks his legs together over the shoulder once again. From here, Lucas can finish with a triangle choke or armbar, depending on the opponent’s reaction.
