Professor Lucas Lepri teaches how to pass the half guard when the opponent traps the foot and the knee. Lucas starts to escape the position by pushing the opponent’s hip with his inside hand. This allows him to slide his leg out and bring his knee up. In this variation, the opponent immediately transitions to the deep half guard. Lucas reacts by sitting back and places his knee behind the opponent’s bottom to block. He uses the under hook to make the opponent turn to the side so he can slide his inside knee out. Once he slides the knee out, Lucas shifts his hips and turns his knee in for the knee cut. From here, he transitions to side control.
