Professor Lucas Lepri teaches how to pass the open guard using the C grips on the shins. The opponent has the open guard and Lucas is standing. Lucas moves in and pushes the opponent back gripping both shins with the c grip. He moves to one side and pins one leg down placing his foot over the ankle. He now switches the c grips on the legs. This allows him to move to the north south position. In the north south position, he pummels his arms in and controls the opponents elbow on one side and the hip with the other arm. In another scenario, when Lucas moves to the north-south, the opponent tries to frame. Lucas breaks the frame by using his knee on the arm. If the opponent starts to turn in an attempt to go for the single leg, then Lucas brings his other elbow to the mat and changes his base to go to the side. Lucas controls the opponent's wrist from the back, and then pulls the opponent back to get the back control.
