Description

Professor Lucas Lepri explains how to complete a guard pass to side control when an opponent blocks his knee cut pass with a the reverse De La Riva guard. Lucas establishes a collar grip and also grips the gi below the opponent’s ribs. Lucas brings the knee of the foot that is based next to his trapped leg and falls to his hip, using the grip under the opponent’s ribs to keep the opponent from following him. He kicks his leg free and begins to circle around the opponent, blocking the opponent from recomposing the guard using his forearm to put pressure on the opponent’s hips. Lucas continues to circle until he is almost in a north-south position, then uses the collar grip to pull the opponent’s shoulders off the mat as he circles back to complete the pass to side control.
