Professor Lucas Lepri teaches how to transition to the armbar from the side control, using the knee on belly. Lucas starts in the side control and grips the same side arm under the elbow. He transitions to the knee on belly and pulls the arm up. Lucas then immediately brings his outside leg over the opponent’s head and sits on the mat. From here, Lucas can go for the armbar submission. If the opponent defends by gripping their own hands, Lucas can work on breaking the grips and then finishes the armbar.
