Professor Lucas Lepri demonstrates a simple single leg defense to establish back control on the opponent. Starting with regular Judo grips, the opponent goes for a single leg takedown, initially keeping the collar grip. Lucas immediately grabs the material near the top of the back and puts pressure on the opponent’s back and shoulders. When he puts pressure on the opponent, the opponent releases the collar grip and connects his hands in a Gable grip. As soon as the opponent connects his hands and tries to stand up, Lucas turns away so that his trapped knee faces away from the opponent and kicks his leg through the opponent’s hands, all the while keeping pressure on the top of the opponent’s back. Once free, Lucas immediately turns back to the opponent and grips the material on the back with both hands and pulls him down to force the opponent to hands and knees or turtle. Once the opponent is down, Lucas immediately circles around to establish back control.
