Professor Lucas Lepri teaches how to counter a sit up guard by passing and getting the back control. Lucas is standing and the opponent moves into the sit up guard position. Lucas immediately grips the opponent’s lapel behind the head. He uses his other hand to grip the leg next to the knee. Lucas now circles the sit up guard leg over the opponent’s leg and immediately steps back with his other leg. He falls back with the opponent and maintains pressure. From here, Lucas now switches the grip to the other leg and shrimps back so he can then go for the knee on belly. In this variation, the opponent attempts to escape by turning into Lucas. Lucas changes his base by turning to the other side and slides his elbow over the opponent. Using his elbow to block, Lucas releases the grip on the pants and grips the collar. The opponent keeps turning and Lucas takes the back control.
